In the battle against climate change Scotland now generates around 11% of its electricity from renewable sources, and the Scottish Government has set a target of 50% by 2020. As part of this plan Infinergy has investigated the hill of Tom nan Clach on Cawdor Estate, Nairnshire, as a possible renewable energy site. The site is approximately 8km east of Tomatin and to the east of the A9 Inverness to Perth road (grid reference NH870340). In June 2009 we submitted the Planning Application, along with an Environmental Statement, to The Highland Council.
On Monday 23 August 2010 The Highland Council refused planning consent for the Tom nan Clach Wind Farm proposal. Infinergy appealed to Scotitish Ministers and a Public Inquiry was granted which took place in late August/early September 2011. We now await the outcome of this inquiry and the Minister's decision which we expect sometime in 2012.
